Last month our 8th graders went on a field trip to Endless Opportunities Career Fair at Ingall's Harbor in Decatur, Alabama. This was a wonderful opportunity for our 8th graders to get some hands on experience with a few of our local industries. There was a great diversity among the industries present. Some of the industries require college degrees and some do not. However, all of the industries present will provide a living for them after graduation should they so choose! We are opening up their eyes to different career opportunities that exist! We are also continuing to work on our 4 year plans with our career coach. We have finished adding our core classes and all classes required to graduate to our paper plan and will begin adding our electives next week!
In September, 8th graders took the Needs Assessment to see what areas they felt they needed help with in 8th grade this year. I'm not really surprised that they are all worried about going to High School! We are in full swing working on 4 year plans. This month we are working on the Math portions of our 4 year plans and creating our Kudor Accounts for our online plans. Once we are done with these we will begin our Transitioning to High School unit, which includes 8 lessons on preparing our students for High School. Continue to check back here for more updates!
8th grade Guidance has gotten off to a great start! We have begun to work on our 4 Year Plans with the help of our wonderful Career Coaches, Anna Whitfield and Bailey Speer. They will be with us throughout the school year helping us with our plans and with Career Exploration. We are excited to have them here!
